P and C says NO to DET Control

Hurlstone's P and C resolved overwhelmingly that if a commercial manager is appointed to assist the school, that role should report to and be accountable to the Principal, not the bureaucrats.  The central P and C, the three country P and Cs, the School Council, experts in Agriculture Education, the ICPA and many others agree that a unified model is the only way forward.

If the Minister is good to her word about listening to what all the key stakeholders have to say, we can work together toward a unified Centre of Excellence as first proposed by SHEAP. An expert Advisory Committee to oversee the development of a business plan is the next logical step.

Save Hurlstone Farm and Local Green Space!

Aerial view of Hurlstone

The NSW Government wanted to flog-off Hurlstone Agricultural High School Farm to developers .

This would have ended 102 years of agriculture excellence at one of Australia's best performing public schools and replace valued local greenspace with up to 3000 houses and more traffic.

Having been rebuffed by the community and proven wrong by their own Inquiry, now they are trying to split the school and farm and put the land in the hands of the same bureaucrats who have tried to sell it 3 times in 30 years.  They simply aren't listening. They are just setting the farm for failure so they can have another go later. Say no to the split farm option. Support SHEAP's win-win option which recommends a new unified Centre of Excellence under the Principal. The proposed 'commercial manager' must answer to the Principal and the proposed Advisory Board of Experts should be appointed.

As the Peter's report found. DET is not good at running agricultural schools.

Your help is needed to keep Hurlstone as:

  • irreplaceable pathways for city and country kids in scarce skills in agricultural science
  • essential teaching land at our only secondary, selective, boarding and co-ed ag school
  • best practice sustainable ag education helping the global food crisis and climate change
  • the green buffer' and regional 'lung' between Liverpool and Campbelltown
  • life experience for suburban pre and primary school children who get to visit a real farm.
