Why SHEAP says no to splitting Hurlstone's farm |
Friday, 02 April 2010 14:25 |
SHEAP has been asked by a number of people of good faith why we oppose the split school option. In simple terms because experts say its the worst option for education outcomes, it renders the land vulnerable to future sale options and it is not necessary to split the school to achieve the vision of the Centre of Excellence.
Not surprisingly, all the key stakeholders and expert groups support an integrated option and oppose a split option - country parents, whose future siupport is necessary to the viability of the boarding school, agriculture education experts, the experts consulted by the Hurlstone Inquiry, Isolated Children's Parents Association, Teachers Federation. Many in the community oppose any sale at all. |

Saturday, 13 March 2010 09:32 |
In the light of some additional information and more clarification about the actual motions to be put to today's P and C, we have updated the Questions and Answers sheet. The bottom line is still the same. No to a split school option. Yes for an integrated school, boarding school and farm as the foundation for the proposed Centre of Excellence.

Congratulations to Dux of Agriculture at Hurlstone for 2009 – Prasanthi Purusothaman. See Dr Russell's speech which further endorses SHEAPs demand that Hurlstone remain an integrated educational facility... " If ever there has been an affirmation of the special and unique nature of what Hurlstone offers to Australia in terms of the education and inspiration of our future agricultural leaders it has been in 2009. In July and August, I facilitated three forums for the Hurlstone Peters Inquiry. As is now public knowledge – all three forums absolutely and unequivocally affirmed the important role of Hurlstone with its unique combination of working farm and high school on the fringe of Australia’s largest city |

Urgent 13 March 2010! Please Attend P and C meeting to stop the farm split |
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 20:08 |
Dear supporters, Urgent, Urgent, Urgent. This weekend (13 March 2pm) the Hurlstone P and C is proposing to debate a motion, put by a minority group, to try to split the school, farm and boarding school. We believe this arises out of a last ditch effort by the Government to try to split the solidarity of SHEAP, the community and parents. See the Notice of the Meeting here. Please come and stop the split. Vote for a united and better future toward the proposed Centre of Excellence, but keeping this historic asset united not divided. See the full article and see the letter and Q and A sent to the Pand C that answers the Frequently Asked Questions. But we need people to turn up to stop the minority being used by Government. |

SHEAP gets a thank you - but its not over yet |
Wednesday, 16 December 2009 20:08 |
The campaign is not about us and never has been... but thank you to Hurlstone for the acknowledgement of SHEAP's efforts. In fairness, there were many, many other people from the school and beyond who gave time, money, effort and ideas to support the SHEAP and community campaigns to Save Hurlstone's farm. Some chose to remain anonymous to preserve their professional obligations. All credit to their strong ethics. Others are unsung heroes and good community citizens. At the right time, I hope they can be acknowledged also. It was/is a fight worth having in... |
